White House Clinics is proud to partner with the National Healthcareer Association to offer an Apprenticeship Program for medical assistant training. This program offers on-the-job training for those interested in pursuing a certification as a Medical Assistant. This program is designed to offer fulltime pay and benefits to students while they learn and develop their skills. Training combines classroom learning with hands-on skill building and externship opportunities within clinic settings at White House Clinics. At the conclusion of the 12-week program students will be eligible to sit for the exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant. Program participants are paid to learn during the course of the training and have no out-of-pocket costs, White House Clinics covers ALL expenses for the coursework and exam fees through the NHA.

Medical Assistants play a vital role in patient care and are responsible for a variety of both clinical and clerical tasks. They are trusted to maintain patient confidentiality while providing exceptional patient care to families across our communities. Medical assisting is one of the fastest growing and much needed careers in the nation. As the center of the patient care team, they support providers in the provision of high-quality care to patients and are often tasked with helping patients feel at ease in clinic. A career as a medical assistant can be rewarding in itself, but this opportunity can be the launching point of a long career for those interested in pursuing additional career paths in the healthcare field.

What does a medical assistant do?

• Greets patients and escorts them to the exam room.
• Prepares patients for provider and anticipates needs of the provider to maintain efficient patient flow.
• Performs phlebotomy and laboratory procedures as directed by provider.
• Performs and documents injections and immunizations.
• Performs point of care testing like strep tests, flu tests, and urinalysis.
• Ensures exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for patient care.
• Cleans, prepares, and sterilizes instruments.
• Assists providers with procedures, exams, and patient education.

Apprenticeship Expectations:

• Successfully complete all assigned coursework.
• Maintain the expectation of regular attendance to meet the program requirements.
• Service commitment to White House Clinics upon graduation.

Requirements:

• 18 years or older.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
